Koji Kondo

Koji Kondo (Aug. 13, 1960) is a videogame musician responsible for the most culturally recognized pieces of game music, these being the default stage theme of Super Mario Bros. and the over-world theme of The Legend of Zelda. It may be worth noting that both of these compositions, despite their popularity, harbor qualities that would ordinarily seem to limit popularity: for example, the notational character of the former's melody, and the latter's chromatic runs. Kondo has contributed to, or been solely responsible for, the soundtracks to other titles including Star Fox 64, Yoshi's Island, and Mario Kart 64.
