Most games increase the player's firepower by either adding to their inventory or replacing their current weapon with one that is stronger. However, there remain a number of games that offer various upgrades to a sole weapon carried with the player throughout an entire game.
In the majority of shooters, aspects of the player's firepower (such as speed and sheer amount) can be upgraded by either collecting powerups or, in some cases, obtaining a set score.
